Decorating for autumn is all about bringing the cosy vibes of the season into your home. The transforming colours of nature all around us provide a plentiful source of inspiration to take with us indoors and achieve that enveloping atmosphere.

Reds, oranges and yellows are classic autumnal colours that can suit many different interior styles. Take inspiration from one or two of these traditional shades and use them to build your setting around. For example, this palette combines with a moody blue and greens to introduce an intimate contemporary feel.

Strong colours make for powerful statements that are ideal on unique furnishings like stand-alone armchairs and sofas, or used as colour pops on home accessories. Even feature walls in block colours or smaller spaces like hallways and bathrooms, can be brought to life with an injection of bolder tones to instantly create a cheerful room that remains so, even when the weather is dreary outside.

If you prefer a brighter, more uplifting palette, a rich ochre toned yellow, when combined with darker colours and wood tones, can create a punchy but still snug scheme.

This can provide a beautiful backdrop to an awkwardly lit room or will glow in a south-facing room, drenched in golden low autumn light. Using an off white for the ceiling will help soften the edge where the strong wall colour stops.

One of the easiest ways to bring Autumn warmth into your home is by adding more colours and textures with cushions and throws in rich colours to deliver an inviting atmosphere to wrap up in on the cool nights ahead.

When using a grey theme, the key is to go for a warm grey or even a greige (grey beige). Grey can sometimes feel cold, so going for a shade with a warmer undertone will make sure you keep the space feeling soft and comfortable.

Combining grey with warm accents through your soft furnishings, and accessories, plus lots of ambient lighting is a great way to create a cosy colour scheme. Switch prints and paintings in your home for Autumn scenes, nature-inspired, or moody artwork to instantly transform a room..

Turn the warmth dial right up with a palette full of rich colour tones. Pairing them all together creates a warm saturation level that feels like slipping into your favourite fleecy jumper.

Styling with purple tends to be relatively easy as it comes in so many shades and pairs so easily with other colours. Another great way to decorate is by bringing in natural elements to fill vases and bowls, like pinecones, dried grasses, foliage & botanicals.

From warm textiles and bold colours to natural elements and seasonal accents, there are so many ways to bring the inspiration of Autumn into your decor. Decorating your home doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. With a few simple touches, you can create a space that feels warm and welcoming.
